Tourism SEO. Three search moments. Three pages. Zero OTA commission.

A traveler doesn't search once: they dream, then compare, then book. Each moment calls for a different page, format, trust signal. We build all three — so you take back control of direct bookings against Booking and Airbnb.

Why tourism is different

OTAs dominate the head — you win on local intent and experience.

You won't beat Booking on "hotel Marrakech" in organic SEO. But you can dominate "authentic riad medina Marrakech", "Agafay desert excursion in French", "Moroccan breakfast hotel Essaouira". The battle is on the distribution tail — where intent is precise and your authenticity weighs.

3 distinct search momentsInspiration ("what to do in Morocco?"), comparison ("riad vs hotel Marrakech"), booking ("availability riad Yasmine March"). Each moment = one intent, one page, one format. A hotel with only a home + booking page misses the first two moments.
GBP + visual reviews = nuclear weaponsIn the local pack "hotel + city", the top 3 results concentrate 75 % of clicks. Optimized GBP + 50+ recent reviews with photos + systematic replies = more effective lever than 6 months of organic SEO in many cases.
Multilingual by natureFR + EN + AR is a minimum. ES, IT, DE are bonuses depending on your markets. Each language = dedicated pages (no auto-translation), clean hreflang, adapted visuals. A mono-language tourism site leaves 40 to 60 % of the market to competitors.
Seasonality = SEO planningMarch = high season Marrakech. July-August = coasts (Essaouira, Agadir). October = desert. Content must publish 3 to 6 months before the season to capture early inspiration searches. A seasonal editorial calendar is mandatory.

Our 6 tourism levers

Six interventions that transform a tourism site.

Tourism levers aren't the same as standard e-commerce. You don't sell a product — you sell a moment, an experience, a memory. SEO must follow.

01

Editorial destination pages

Pages like "what to do in Marrakech in 3 days", "best medina riads", "desert excursion vs Atlas excursion" — long content (1500+ words), authentic photos, map, FAQ. Capture inspiration moment (top-of-funnel traffic).

02

Optimized experience / room pages

Each room type / each experience = dedicated page with HotelRoom or Service schema, multiple photos, sensory description, FAQ (breakfast included? cancellation? transfer?). Capture comparison moment.

03

GBP + reviews strategy

GBP optimization (pro photos, weekly posts, Q&A, hours), post-stay reviews process (email + room QR code), systematic replies (positive and negative). Local pack = lever #1 for hotels and riads.

04

Neighborhood / POI pages

"Riad near Jemaa el-Fna", "hotel Atlas view", "souk proximity". Each POI = geo-targeted page. Capture "hotel + place" intents that escape Booking.

05

Native multilingual + clean hreflang

FR / EN / AR / ES (per markets) on domains, subdomains or /lang. No auto-translation. Hreflang verified page by page. Each language = content rewritten with local terms ("riad" stays "riad" in English).

06

Hotel / Lodging schema + dynamic price

Hotel + LodgingBusiness schema with geo, amenities (WiFi, pool, parking), aggregateRating. If changing prices: dynamic Offer schema via booking engine. Rich snippets = +20 to +40 % CTR in SERP.

The 3 search moments

Three moments, three pages, three intents.

Most tourism sites have only one "site page" trying to capture all three moments. That's the main reason for their organic underperformance. Here are the three pages to build — separately.

01Inspiration

Inspiration pages

Capture dreamer traffic, top of funnel. Long informational keywords.

Format: 1500+ word guide, authentic photos, interactive map, experiences carousel, soft CTA (newsletter, favorites). Examples: "what to do in Marrakech in 3 days", "best medina riads", "desert vs Atlas circuit".

02Comparison

Comparison pages

Capture comparison intent. Prospects who know they're coming but hesitate between options.

Format: detailed experience / room sheets, FAQ, displayed prices, reviews at page bottom, many photos. Examples: "deluxe room with pool", "4×4 Merzouga excursion vs Zagora camel ride".

03Booking

Booking pages

Capture transactional intent. Bottom-of-funnel prospects, ready to pay.

Format: clear page, integrated booking engine, visible price and availability, maximum trust (reviews, certifications, WhatsApp number), MA payment options (CMI, cash on site). Single prominent CTA.

Common tourism pitfalls

Five mistakes we find in 80 % of tourism sites.

Tourism is the sector where sites are most often built "by the manager" or by a non-SEO web agency. These 5 pitfalls ruin organic performance without anyone noticing.

01

Single generic page for the whole hotel

What we see

Home → photo gallery → "book" button. No room pages, no destination pages, no guides. Result: site only captures people typing the hotel name. Zero SEO traffic.

What to do

Build 15 to 40 pages: each room, each experience, each tour, each nearby neighborhood, each seasonal guide. Each page = one distinct search intent captured.

02

Stock photos + generic descriptions

What we see

Stock images, texts like "our hotel welcomes you in an authentic setting...". Booking's visual reviews are 10× more attractive. Google can't distinguish your hotel from another.

What to do

Pro photo shoot (2,000-5,000 MAD once): each room, each space, decor details. Sensorily written texts (smells, sounds, textures). 30-60s walk-through video. Authenticity = differentiation.

03

Empty or neglected GBP

What we see

GBP with 3 photos, 2 reviews from 2 years ago, wrong hours, no posts. In local pack you're 7th. Top 3 take 75 % of clicks.

What to do

GBP pack: 20-30 quality photos, 10+ posts per month (events, promos, highlights), reviews process (email D+2 after stay), reply to every review in 48h. In 3 months you're in top 3.

04

Mono-language site

What we see

Site only in French. 60 % of your potential market (English, Spanish, German speakers) goes to multilingual competitors. You pay Google Ads to compensate.

What to do

FR + EN minimum, AR + ES bonus per target. Each language = human translation (no Google Translate), hreflang verified, culturally adapted visuals if relevant. SEO ROI +40 to +80 % per target market.

05

No direct booking engine

What we see

Site redirecting to Booking.com to book. You pay 15-25 % commission on every reservation. Your reviews are on Booking, not Google. You're dependent.

What to do

Direct booking engine (ChannelManager, WuBook, Hostaway, SmoobuPro) integrated to site. CMI + cash on site for Morocco. Direct promo = "5 % cheaper than Booking, breakfast included". Loyal clients book with you.

How we audit

Four phases. 6 to 10 weeks depending on size.

A tourism SEO audit covers the site + GBP + reviews + OTA platforms. We look at the full ecosystem — not just the site in isolation.

  1. 01

    Technical + GBP audit

Site crawl, inspection of existing pages vs 3 moments, GBP audit (photos, posts, Q&A, categories, hours), reviews audit (volume, recency, replies, mentions), local competitor benchmark (OTAs and direct).

  2. 02

    Content + multilingual audit

Pages inventory by moment (inspiration, comparison, booking). Multilingual audit (languages present, quality, hreflang). Gap keywords identification (seasonal + geo + experiences). Shortlist 20-40 pages to create.

  3. 03

    Distribution + direct bookings audit

OTA audit (Booking, Airbnb, Expedia): commission paid, revenue share, dependency. Direct bookings vs OTA benchmark. Current booking engine analysis, conversion rate, friction. Repatriation opportunities.

  4. 04

    Deliverable + seasonal roadmap

40-70 page document with audit + 6-12 month roadmap aligned on your seasonal calendar (high season, low season, events). Priorities quantified by direct bookings impact.

FAQ

What hoteliers and tour operators ask.

Six answers to frame your project before the first exchange.

How to beat Booking.com in SEO?
You don't beat Booking on generic head queries ("hotel Marrakech"). You beat it on precise intent ("authentic riad medina Marrakech with pool"), on the local pack (optimized GBP + reviews), on your own brand name, and on niche language queries. Realistic goal: capture 20-40 % of your bookings direct after 12 months, instead of 5-10 % today.
Multilingual site or several sites per language?
A multilingual site with clean hreflang in 95 % of cases. Separate sites only if you have distinct brands per market (rare). For a standard hotel FR + EN + AR: one site, 3 languages, URLs /fr/* /en/* /ar/*, hreflang verified per page. Avoid Google Translate at all costs — human writing mandatory.
Which platform for a tourism site?
WordPress + tourism theme (Hotela, Riad, Resort) + booking engine plugin = 90 % of cases. For > 50 rooms or chain: dedicated solution (SiteMinder, D-EDGE). PrestaShop or Shopify are unsuitable (product-oriented). Avoid Wix or Squarespace if serious SEO.
How many GBP reviews should I target?
For an average hotel (20-50 rooms), goal: 150 GBP reviews with > 4.3 rating and > 20 reviews in the last 3 months (recency signal). For a riad / small hotel (< 20 rooms), 80 reviews suffice. Recency counts as much as volume: 50 reviews this year > 300 reviews from 3 years ago.
Do you manage the booking engine?
We don't sell a booking engine, but we advise and integrate the best solutions (ChannelManager, WuBook, Hostaway, SmoobuPro, D-EDGE for large capacities). We audit yours if you have one and identify friction points killing direct conversion rate.
How long for tourism SEO results?
Quick wins (GBP, reviews, schema, missing room pages): 2-4 months for measurable effect. Inspiration pages + destination guides: 4-9 months (these pages are competitive). Direct bookings: first repatriations visible at 6 months, S-curve until 18 months. Patience and seasonal calendar mandatory.
